One transit team pulling together toward mobility for all

A theme in my work at The Rapid is building things from the ground up. I’m fortunate to be able to see many large projects from start to finish. The launching of Blink, The Rapid’s employee communications tool, was no different.

Per a 2018 all-employee survey, The Rapid’s executive team found an overall lack of information sharing and communication throughout the organization. The majority of The Rapid’s employees do not utilize organizational email addresses, which makes information dispersal even more challenging. Information spread through paper posters and memos (I probably created and hung more than 500 posters since 2013).

I was tasked with implementing a digital tool to meet our needs. Enter Blink, this employee intranet app functions as an internal social hub to share critical organizational information and boost engagement.

Our mission was to elevate the way The Rapid team communicates and connects. Here’s how we increased employee sentiment toward internal communications by 114%:

  • Established a launch plan and activated the team

  • Hosted a three-day launch event to hit all segments of our three-shift workforce

  • Created launch materials and creative ways to engage employees and increase the chance of conversion to the app

  • Built a content strategy and personas to establish a content plan

  • Involved all departments in ways to utilize the new app and create rapport with employees

  • Achieved a 79% adoption rate in the first two months

  • Act as lead content creator for the platform

Ask me what I learned about managing cross-departmental relationships during an internal launch.
